Best Practices for Workflow Documentation

These are some best practices for documenting your workflows (or “standard operating procedures”)
  • Make your description of steps clear and concise. (there’s a delicate balance between being specific without getting too verbose)
  • Break descriptions into as many steps as you can
  • Ensure your documentation is easily accessible to everyone, everywhere (i.e. use cloud-based tool)
  • Make it easy to edit and update documentation.
  • Control who can make document changes if necessary
  • Review your documented workflows at least once a year.
  • Create and use templates as much as possible
