These are some best practices for documenting your workflows (or “standard operating procedures”)
- Make your description of steps clear and concise. (there’s a delicate balance between being specific without getting too verbose)
- Break descriptions into as many steps as you can
- Ensure your documentation is easily accessible to everyone, everywhere (i.e. use cloud-based tool)
- Make it easy to edit and update documentation.
- Control who can make document changes if necessary
- Review your documented workflows at least once a year.
- Create and use templates as much as possible
