ScopeThis award is designed to identify and promote talented trainee leaders nationally in order to promote leadership in gastroenterology for the future.
CriteriaThe award is open to any BSG member who is training in gastroenterology in the UK. This includes members of the BSG Trainee Section Committee not directly involved in the organisation of the award. Applications are welcomed from doctors in LAT posts as well as those in numbered posts. 
Conditions of the AwardThe successful applicant is required to attend the annual meeting to be eligible to receive the award. 
Timeline – advertisingOpens 6 months prior to the Annual Meeting at the same time as the other Trainees and CSSC awards. Suggested timeline outlined below.

Personal statement detailing your leadership qualities, project(s) you have led and been involved with and how your actions have impacted change. (maximum of 1000 words)

The bullet points below are suggestions for areas you may wish to emphasize and discuss in your personal statement. They are meant as a guide only.
 
  • Describe your personal leadership development journey.
  • Details of your personal experience of leading and engaging at various levels (e.g. team, system, organisation) with details of your impact on others.
  • Provide details of your personal impact and effectiveness as leader.
  • Give evidence of leading on transformational and innovative change for the benefit of patients, staff and the public.
Scoring CriteriaAll candidates to be scored across the following categories that correspond with the bullets above. A free text box is available for judges to add additional notes or feedback comments that could be shared with the applicant on request. The scores will be added and then ranked with the top score being the best application. In the event of a tie, you may be requested to review applications with your fellow judges.
  • Change in personal leadership skills (Score 1-5 –0= not demonstrated any change to 5 demonstrated a significant change in personal leadership skills)
  • Impact of applicants leadership and engagement skills on teams (Score 1-5 –0= not demonstrated any organisational impact to 5 demonstrated a significant organisational impact on others)
  • Personal Impact as a leader(Score 1-5 –0= not demonstrated any personal impact to 5 demonstrated a significant organisational impact on others)
  • Driving change for benefit of patients, staff or public (Score 1-5 –0= not demonstrated any change to 5 demonstrated significant change)
