Reporting
The BSG Education Committee is accountable to the BSG Executive.
 
Purpose
  • To promote and support education within the BSG
  • To develop and implement an education strategy
  • To oversee all educational activity organised by the BSG
  • To maintain the BSG Endorsement Policy and to endorse external events in line with that policy
  • To award bursaries and awards in line with BSG policy
 
Duties
  • To hold three meetings per calendar year
  • To publish an updated strategy and operational plan at least every 3 years
  • To monitor delivery of the education strategy
  • To work with BSG members and external partners to develop education priorities
  • To monitor the reach and quality of education organised or endorsed by the BSG
  • To oversee the management of BSG education awards and bursaries
  • To keep accurate minutes of all meetings
 
Membership
The membership of the Education Committee is laid out in the Regulations of the BSG.
  • Chair (progression from Deputy Chair; serving a 2-year term)
  • Deputy Chair/ Online Education Editor (appointed by interview; serving a 2-year term as deputy and a 2-year term as Chair)
  • Deputy Online Education Editor (appointed by competitive interview process and serves a 2-year term)
  • Trainee Deputy Online Education Editor (appointed by competitive interview process and serves a 2-year term)
  • Mentoring lead (appointed by competitive interview process and serves a 2-year term)
  • Representatives from all Section Committees (as nominated by each Section with a maximum term of 3 years)
  • Undergraduate Education Representative
  • Deputy Chair Training Committee
  • Editor Frontline Gastroenterology
  • Science representative
  • Secretary, Senior Secretary
  • Two elected Councillors
 
The chair can appoint individuals to the Education Committee as deemed necessary to achieve specific tasks, but such appointments shall not exceed one year.  A record of co-opted members should be agreed by the Committee and members should be stood down once their task is completed.
 
The meeting will be quorate if, as a minimum, the following members are present:
  • Chair or Deputy
  • Secretary or Senior Secretary
  • Representation of at least 3 sections
  • At least 2 other members
