Amount and details of award?This award is designed to recognise outstanding contributions to any field within GI nursing. This could be through exceptional patient care, leadership, innovation, research, education and training or quality improvement projects. Applicants must be BSG members to be eligible. Applications can be self-nominations, or nominations can be made on behalf of a BSG member.

The successful applicant/s will receive free registration at BSG LIVE for the day and a £500 award. The award ceremony will take place at the BSG annual conference. The winner is required to attend to receive their prize; registration that day will be free of charge. If the winner wishes to attend additional days, a discounted registration will apply.
ScopeThe BSG Nurse Association award is looking for an individual who has made outstanding contributions to any field within GI nursing.
CriteriaApplicants must demonstrate how they or a colleague have made outstanding contributions to any field within GI nursing, either through exceptional patient care, leadership, innovation, research, education and training or quality improvement projects.

Applicants must be BSG members to be eligible. Applications can be self-nominations, or nominations can be made on behalf of a BSG member.

Timeline Opens 6 months prior to the Annual Meeting at the same time as the Trainees and CSSC awards, and closes 4 months before the meeting. Suggested time table found below.
Scoring ProcessThe BSG will convene a panel of judges to review the applications independently. They will score out of the following criteria. A free text box is available for judges to add additional notes or feedback comments that could be shared with the applicant on request. In the event of a tie, judges may be requested at attend a meeting to review applications to make a decision.
  • Demonstrates a positive impact on patient experience (Score 1-5 –0= not demonstrated to 5 demonstrated a significant impact in patient experience)
  • Demonstrates an individual positive contribution to GI nursing – the could be within unit, trust or wider nursing community (Score 1-5 -0= not demonstrated to 5 = demonstrated a significant change)
  • Has personally delivered or implemented something new/innovative for GI nursing practice (Score –1-5, 0= not demonstrated 5 = demonstrated introduction of something very innovative.)
Decision maker  Panel of 3+ BSG reviewers recruited by the BSGNA Committee 
How is it paid?The winner will receive £500 paid by the BSG with the award which will be presented at the Annual Meeting, as well as free registration for the day.

The award ceremony will take place at the joint medical and nursing plenary session at this year’s BSG annual conference.

The winner will also receive a framed certificate. The certificate is sent as PDF via email if Annual Meeting is digital.
