    As Result of An Event

In the event of a fire or any other potentially hazardous situation, various alarm signals will be initiated:
    - The fire alarm system of the school building will be activated.
    - A series of three short blasts on a whistle will indicate a drill or 'Somewill State Emergency Fire Drill'.
    - A real emergency will be signaled by three long, uninterrupted blasts on a whistle.
  2. 2

    Completely Stop

All educators, staff and visitors must completely stop all activities and calmly assemble the children to the nearest and/or safest exit. In the case of internal fire, head to the emergency evacuation point.

See the position of Egress route at the school.

  3. 3

Educators will be responsible for collecting the studio fire evacuation bag, school Ipad, individual child medication and school phone

–Studio iPad (to ensure each child is accounted for using SmartCentral
    -Parents/emergency contacts (located on SmartCentral)
-Evacuation bags (containing first aid etc)
    -School phone
-Individual child medication (e.g. epi pens) located in front office first aid cupboard

    Final Checks of the School

In the event that the Nominated Supervisor is absent, the designated Responsible Person (RP) will be tasked with the duty of performing a final sweep of the school. This is to ensure no individuals - students, staff, or visitors - are left inside the building. However, this task should only be undertaken if deemed safe by the RP.
  5. 5

    Assembly Location

Once everyone has gathered at the designated Assembly Point (also known as the "Muster Point", and indicated on the Site Map), the assigned Supervisor will contact emergency services, dialing “000”. A head count will then be performed to ensure everyone is accounted for.

Please see the map below for the location marked as 'Egress'.
The Assembly Point (or "Muster Point") is indicated in the image above.
During significant emergencies, everyone should gather at Assemble Area 1, as shown below:

  6. 6

    Await Instruction

Once the emergency situation is resolved, the School Director or RP (Responsible Person), also known as the Fire Warden, will receive confirmation from Building Management and Emergency Services regarding the safety of re-entry.
  7. 7

    Return School & Report Incident

Once all-clear signal has been officially issued by the authorities, educators, staff, visitors and children are allowed to re-enter the School premises. Subsequent to this, an after-action review of the situation will be conducted, and a report generated. The report will detail what happened, the actions taken and the response of the children and staff.

It is important to take note that depending on the severity and nature of the emergency, we might be required to notify the Education and Care Regulatory Unit (ECRU) through the National Quality Agenda IT System (NQAITS), in line with Australia's regulations. This is crucial for the ongoing improvement of our emergency procedures and overall safety of our centre.

Lastly, keeping the lines of communication open with our community is important to us. Therefore, our parents and families will be informed about the incident and the necessary steps taken.
