Adobe - Error "The Document Could Not Be Saved..."

    Overview

    Issue: When saving a PDF file, you get the error "The document could not be saved. The file may be read-only or another user may have it open. Please save to a different file name.

    The below fix ALSO applies for the error "There was an error opening this document. The file cannot be accessed by the system.

    Edit

    At the top of Adobe click on Edit and then preferences

    Security

    Select to Security (Enhanced)  then at the top left corner uncheck the box Enable protected mode at startup and click yes on the dialog box.

    You may also want to uncheck enable protected mode at startup.

    A restart of the PC might be required for the change to take effect.

    Restart Adobe and test it again.
