4Classroom Management
Classroom management in a classical school is about laying a foundation with procedures, arrangement of the classroom and holding scholars accountable to the classroom expectations, which includes modeling the pillars of virtue. We do not use color coded clip charts or work toward earning treats of any type. We avoid anything transactional and strive for positive reinforcement and intrinsic motivation.
In this section, you will want to watch all of the videos in the planning section and review the documents in the during class section.

6Singapore MathBegin with the three articles in the Singapore section to better understand Singapore Math and the reason we use it. “The Key Components in a Math Class” and “5 Elements of a Good Math Class” are videos produced by BCSI and provide a great explanation of what we expect to see in a math class.
The blog article “Paul Lockhart on Teaching Math” is also important to read to have an understanding of our philosophy of teaching math.
Every grade level emphasizes math facts as you will see in the Math Facts by Grade Level document.

7HistoryBegin this section by reviewing the History Scope and Sequence to understand how history is taught at your academy. You will notice that every grade studies world history in the fall (first semester) and American in the spring (second semester). We are structured chronologically and you will see that world history is a 5 year, chronological study and our scholars will study exploration through the Civil War twice, in grades 1-5. The primary years will provide basic storytelling for scholars to have the exposure and they will engage in a deeper study in the intermediate grades.
The “Teaching History Classically” video, from BCSI, walks you through how to teach a history lesson.
