-- 3400 -- NCA Graduation and Promotional Requirements

A.  Progression Plan

The organization will maintain its Student Progression Plan to determine promotional requirements.

B.  Early Graduation

Pursuant to FS 1003.4281, high school students have the option of early graduation and receipt of a standard high school diploma if the student earns 24 credits and meets the graduation requirements set forth in s. 1003.4282. For purposes of this policy, the term “early graduation” means graduation from high school in less than eight (8) semesters or the equivalent.

  1. The school shall notify the parent of a student who is eligible to graduate early. A school district may not prohibit a student who meets the requirements of this section from graduating early.
  2. A student who graduates early may continue to participate in school activities and social events and attend and participate in graduation events with the student’s cohort, as if the student were still enrolled in high school. A student who graduates early will be included in class ranking, honors, and award determinations for the student’s cohort. A student who graduates early must comply with school board rules and policies regarding access to the school facilities and grounds during normal operating hours.
  3. If eligible for a Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Program award under ss. 1009.53-1009.538, a student who graduates from high school midyear may receive an initial award in the spring term following the student’s graduation.
Pursuant to FS 1003.4282, grade forgiveness shall be allowed as described below:

  1. Forgiveness for required courses completed in high school shall allow replacing a grade of “D” or “F” with a grade of “C” or higher earned subsequently in the same or comparable course.
  2. Forgiveness for elective courses completed in high school shall allow replacing a grade of “D” or “F” with a grade of “C” or higher earned subsequently in another course.
  3. Forgiveness for high school courses completed in middle school shall allow students who earn a grade of “C,” “D,” or “F” to replace the grade with a grade of “C” or higher earned subsequently in the same or comparable course.
  4. In all cases of grade forgiveness, only the new grade shall be used in the calculation of the student’s grade point average. Any course grade not replaced according to a district school board forgiveness policy shall be included in the calculation of the cumulative grade point average required for graduation.
