Role of Principal/Dean of Students: to observe lesson and give feedback, to be a constant resource for teachers, to provide guidance and encouragement.

- Teacher is at the door or in front of the class greeting students
- Class starts on time
- Students are seated in desks with books and materials ready
- “Big Ideas”/overview of lesson/outline are on the board
- Assignment is on the board to be copied by students
- Attendance is taken silently while students copy assignment (check seating chart)
- Homework is checked and gone over briskly
- Lesson is clear and rapidly paced
- Board or documents projected used as tools for student comprehension
- Teacher answers questions and stays on track
- Instruction consumes entire period
- Brief wrap up/review at end of class
- Teacher dismisses class on time
- Teacher rapport with students
- Inviting, informative, appropriate environment (room decorations and organization)
- Classroom management
- Teacher attention to students’ needs
