(2300-T) Detention Procedures

Detentions:
  • Before-school detention:
    • Any administrator can issue a before-school detention. Before-school detentions will be staffed on a rotating schedule by members of the administrative team.
    • The administrator issuing the before-school detention must notify the parents before detention is served.  Detention must be served as soon as possible, but may depend on the student’s transportation logistics.
    • Students serving before-school detention may not work on homework, but will have either another assignment and/or another task that is appropriate for the infraction.
    • If the before-school detention was issued because of an infraction in the classroom, the teacher must speak with the student about the infraction and ways in which the student can improve classroom behavior during the before-school detention.
  • Lunch detention:
    • The teacher who issued the lunch detention will monitor the student.
    • Classroom expectations should be addressed during the detention.  After those expectations are addressed, the teacher may help the student with assignments or other material for that class, require the student to complete another assignment (such as an apology letter), or require another task that is appropriate for the infraction (such as cleaning the desks or lab equipment).
    • Parents need to be notified that day.
    • If the student receives a lunch detention in a class that occurs after the lunch period is complete, the student should serve the lunch detention on the next school day.
  • After-school detention:
    • Dean of students may issue an after-school detention for a more serious penalty that requires a longer detention period. Please refer to the school's Code of Student Conduct for details.
  • Notification:
    • Please notify registrar of any detentions or disciplinary actions.
