    Classroom Teacher Expectations

    1. Who’s in charge?
    2. Is the teacher prepared to teach the lesson?
    3. Does the teacher model appropriate behaviors?
    4. Is the teacher mobile?
    5. Do the students seem to be engaged?
    6. What are the objectives of the lesson?
    7. Did the teacher connect the lesson to previous lessons and/ or future lessons?
    8. Does the teacher treat each moment as precious?
    9. Does the teacher give too much time for activities?
    10. How much time, at the beginning and the end of the class question, are students waiting?
    11. Is the pace of the lesson appropriate?
    12. Is the teacher able to identify non-engaged students?
    13. Is the teacher using appropriate language for the age of the student?
    14. Is the instructor using the right instruction method? (Socratic, coaching, direct instruction)
    15. Do the activities match the instruction?
    16. Does the teacher pose questions?
    17. Are all students trying to answer questions?
    18. Do the teachers use a variety of questioning types?
    19. Does the teacher give an appropriate wait time for students to think?
    20. Are questions moving towards the lesson objective or direction?
    21. Would I want my child to be in this classroom?

    Purpose

    • The purpose of the areas of excellence are to identify and focus professional development and teacher growth in all areas. The areas will be discussed and promoted annually, and teachers will choice areas of focus.

    Scope

    • The administrators, team leaders and teachers brainstorm professional and team goals.

    Focus

    • At the beginning of each school year teachers, teams or departments can choose areas to focus on.  Or, individually teachers can choose individual areas specific to them and their needs for professional development. 
    • Once an area is chosen, a goal is created and this becomes a focal point in the development.   
    • The other areas are not to be ignored as they too are important in the growth and development of the school.

    Responsibilities

    • Each teacher/team/department will establish SMART Goals:
    • SMART Goals- Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound
      • 3 areas in year one, 3 other areas in year two, and the 3 remaining areas in year three.
      • One goal will be chosen to be a three-year goal for the whole staff.
      • The SMART goals with be used as a guide in evaluating teacher's performance.
